Checkmate

CHECKMATE

MOSCOW — DECEMBER 5th, 1962.

Tensions are high in Moscow as the Cold War continues to heat up. Rumors of a missile strike have brought you and your fellow spies to an international chess tournament. Although you start off on the same mission, allegiances are not set in stone. Achieving success in Checkmate requires independent and group success and shifting allegiances make that success even harder to grasp. Are you a pawn in a game between two superpowers or are you a hero closing in on the ultimate Checkmate?
  • What makes Checkmate an advanced room? How is it different from the other rooms at The Ruse?

While the other indoor rooms at The Ruse are built with constant teamwork in mind, Checkmate requires players to solve some puzzles without the help of the rest of the group. We don’t want to reveal too much, but it also includes an element of roleplay!

Why is Checkmate limited to 4-6 players?

The game is structured to require at least 4 people to adequately cover all objectives. We capped this particular game at 6 guests for maximum fun.

Is prior knowledge of chess needed before playing Checkmate?

While it may provide a little context for some game elements, prior chess knowledge is not a requirement.
